Color photos before color photos were invented!

Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii invented a clever camera that shot three black and white negatives through red, green, and blue filters in rapid succession. While there was no way to create a color photographic print at the time, Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii developed a triple projector that would project the three transparent plates through red, green, and blue filters to reconstruct the color view. The images show a fascinating view of Russia at the dawn of the 20th century.
