Erik Nitsche

As a huge fan of mid-century graphic design (ala Brodovitch, Rand, Beall, etc.) I have just been introduced to the stunning work of Erik Nitsche - and I am amazed that I had not learned of him earlier! His work, especially for General Dynamics, is energetic, colorful, and wonderfully structured.

For a good introduction, Steven Heller has written a great essay about Nitsche here.

I love Nitcshe's stuff. FYI, Nitsche did about 31 posters for General Dynamics corp. across 3 series: "atoms for peace", "exploring the universe", and a set profiling each of GD's operating divisions (eg, medical gasses, construction materials). Chisholm Gallery has a few for sale if you want to check them out. www.vintagepostersnyc.com. Gal123 in Switzerland also has some. These same images were used in the company's ad campaigns and appear as ads in National Geographic and Scientific American. YOu can find these on ebay pretty easily and they are not expensive.
