Pixelated Stained Glass Window

Gerhard Richter was comissioned to create a new stained glass windows for a cathedral in Cologne, Germany. He created windows that appear like groups of pixels - which is absolutely breathtaking...

Here is a close up view.

And here is another article as well.

Spirit Fingers

This is an 8mm visual/musical mash-up that I created as an interpretation of the song "Spirit Fingers" by Four Tet. Along with the help of Brandon Goodwin, I took some expired 8mm film stock, shot various things around town (which none of them came through as more than just blocks of color) and then came back and physically drew on the film.

No "high and mighty" concept behind this one - just a visual interpretation of some great music.

Helvetica: The Film

I just found out that "Helvetica: The Film" is going to be playing at the local art-house movie theatre, The Moxie, here in Springfield and I am SUPER excited! I don't really even like Helvetica, but I am excited to see this film! I made a quick little poster to advertise the event - but upon thinking about it, maybe the "cool" thing to do would be to not use Helvetica at all... oh well!

Type is Art.

Here is a link for everyone (including all of my new students) that loves type.

Type is Art has a fun little flash game where you can mix and match different parts of letterforms to create new letterforms (if that doesn't make sense, just go to the site).

On the first of this year, the city of São Paulo banned all outdoor advertising. Good or bad, it certainly is interesting and these photos have such a strange feeling about them...

Boxes, boxes, boxes...

Some interest and kind words have been posted about my limited-edition boxes I sent out.

DustBubble is examining the contents of the boxes in much depth.

Ephemera posts some observations as well.

MagnetBox has a few Flickr photos up to share.

Devil Arts has a very nice Flickr photoset of all of the aspects of his box.

Andy Warhol's own little boxes

The Daily Telegraph has a great story that mixes many of my passions: art, collecting, ephemera, and time all into one. From 1974 until the end of his life, Warhol kept a box beside his desk into which he swept all the ephemera that passed through his hands. When it became full, it was taped shut, dated and sent into storage. By the time of his death, aged 58, in 1987, Warhol had filled more than 600 boxes.

What is fascinating is that most of the boxes are still sealed shut. A few of the boxes are now on display in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Does anyone have the date and time?

I suppose if you really want to become my best friend, you can purchase this for me.

So what does that say about my friendships if they can be purchased for about $500?

The Mysterious Missing Maps!

Yale University recently had some startling discoveries of missing maps. These maps are some of the earliest known maps to show the new world and date back to the 16th century and earlier.

Also, here is a link to some of their online images of maps in the collection.

The boxes are out!

I put all of my "blind boxes" in the post yesterday - I hope they all make it! They are going to the East Coast, Midwest, West Coast, the United Kingdom, and even Japan - so I guess in a way, my seed has been sown.

Maybe I should change my line of work...

I was complaining last night that I do not have any business cards to my good friend Frank Chimero. The only cards I have left have an incorrect address, an incorrect phone number, and an incorrect email address - so basically, they are worthless. I opened my email this morning, and Frank had worked tirelessly all night on this new design. I think it is perfect.
