what about "soda-pop" ?

or "soft drink" ?

And I don't understand how Coke could ever be a generic term for ALL types of soda. A generic term for "cola" maybe. I used to live in Florida & in Kentucky and, despite what the map says, I'm pretty sure nobody there intends the word "Coke" to include 7-up or Sprite.
