OBEY Obama

Although I am not one to speak much about politics, Shepard Fairey, of OBEY fame, has created a nice poster for Barack Obama.

Also, see how flexible a political logo must be these days.

Installation Art in London's Heathrow Airport

Multi-disciplinary art and design practice, Troika, based in London has created a new art installation in Heathrow Airport.

Really interesting and nice - but when I flew through Heathrow, there wasn't anything pretty and it wasn't that clean and shiny...

File Under: Shameless Self-Promotion

Frank Chimero, a good friend and all-around creative artist, has interviewed me for his blog, By So and So. I share, in sometimes too many words, all about my schooling, curiosity, travels, and current work. Thanks Frank!

Also, as noted in an earlier post, I have three new prints that are now available for purchase today at Keep Calm! "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!" "All You Need Is Love" and "Less Is More" are all part of an ongoing series of phrases pressed to paper.

Jaime Gili

Jaime Gili, originally from Venezuela, is a fantastic London-based painter and installation artist. His work fuses the colours of South America with modernist hard-edge painting and dynamic compositions.

If you happen to live in London, you can check out his new show opening February 11th at the Riflemaker Gallery.

Typographical Furniture

Although my Swiss-German is very rough (read: I can't speak it), I don't need to be able to read the descriptions to know that this Typographical Furniture is fantastic! (via TheSerif)

AceJet170 (a great design/type/found blog) has posted images called "Loft and Found" - discarded photographs found in his new loft - and they are amazing! You can read more at his website and see more on his Flickr page.

Three New Letterpressed Prints!

I want to announce three new letterpressed prints that I just finished!

First: "All You Need Is Love" - Perfect for your sweetheart or anyone that needs a reminder of what is most important. Metallic Silver ink on red.

Second: "Less Is More." - My homage to the Swiss Modernists. Simple, clean, and probably one of the most difficult posters I have ever printed. Metallic Silver on dark-grey.

Third: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!" - A phrase we should all follow! Brown ink on green.

All three prints will soon be available at Keep Calm. You can see more pictures on my Flickr page.

This American Life

I am a new convert to a wonderful radio show called "This America Life" by Chicago Public Radio. Although I do not live in Chicago, I get the fantastic and intriguing stories weekly via their podcast.

Each week, Ira Glass hosts stories of often over-looked bits and pieces of life in America. Routinely quirky, always fascinating, it is simply the best show on radio.

There are so many great shows, but I would suggest starting with the episode that spent 24 hours in a 24 hour diner in Chicago simply telling the stories of the people that walked through the doors.

There is also a television show, which I have not seen, but I am sure it is great!

Each poster is printed on an antique map and although part of an unlimited edition, each print is totally unique and different. If you would like to purchase a print, please visit Keep Calm and they will be more than happy to help you!

Library of Congress on Flickr!

Thanks to Frank Chimero, (who has just started a great blog called "By So And So") I have learned that the United States Library of Congress is now on Flickr!

They have a fantastic collection of Farm Security Administration photos in color (which normally you only see the famous black & white photos) as well as many other photographs from their collection. I can only hope that this is just the beginning of their collection coming online! The Library of Congress also has a blog - who knew?

CD Cover in Less Than 10 Minutes!

This is great! Super-fast typographical challenge! Above is my entry!

The CD Album Cover Game

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4. Tag it on flickr "CD Cover Meme"
